"Tug Valley Bass Anglers "Club Classic" Tournament

                          Presented by Elliott Glass"

On October 31st and November 1st the Tug Valley Bass Anglers held its "Club Classic" which is the ninth and final tournament of the 2009 season on Tennessee's Douglas Lake.  The top 18

qualifying anglers competed in the event.

Douglas was way above winter pool, only down about 17 feet.  The lake level this time of year is usually down around 25 to 30 feet.  The lake was being dropped about a foot per day.  The water was clear on most of the lake becoming stained as you got near the 25E bridge.  Most of the bigger creeks had good water color in the backs of the main creek.

Weather for the tournament was miserable on Saturday with a cold rain all day and a 20 mph wind.  Sunday was much better with clouds in the morning giving way to partly sunny skies by lunch and a high temperature of about 65 degrees.

The fish were in their fall patterns, and at Douglas that means following the shad.  Most of the shad were either still on the main lake or in the back third of the creeks and that's exactly where the bass were.

Most of the fish were fairly shallow especially in the backs of the creeks and some were caught as deep as 8 to 12 feet on the steeper banks and on the main lake points.  The cold front that came in

Saturday morning made the fishing a little tougher than normal for this time of year.

The top anglers had a mix of both shallow and deeper patterns.  The main patterns was to fish soft plastic crawfish imitations in the deeper areas and spinnerbaits and rattle traps in the shallower areas.

The top finishers are as follows.
