"Tug Valley Bass Anglers Dewey Lake Tournament

Presented by Perry Distributors"

On April 5th the Tug Valley Bass Anglers held its second tournament of the 2009 season on Dewey Lake.  There was another good turn out with 17 boats competing in the event.

Dewey was a lake in turmoil this weekend.  The weekend before the tournament the lake was

stable, the water was warming and the fish were biting.  Rains earlier this past week started raising the water and another round of rain Friday pushed it to just over summer pool in about 4 days.  And if that wasn't enough  they started drawing the lake back down during the tournament.  This had the fish in a funk and combined with four tournaments on the lake at the same time it caused the fishing to be a little off to say the least.

The water temperature was good for this time of year, it was about 53 in the morning rising to about 60 degrees by the end of the day.  The water was stained at the lower end of the lake near the dam and became muddy as you went up the lake with plenty of floating debris.

Weather for the tournament was perfect with sunny skies and air temperatures near 80 degrees.

The fish were still in prespawn patterns and locations, most of the fish are still on the main lake deeper banks.  There was a few fish caught up in the creeks and on the flats, but because the water came up so fast the fish stayed right where they were before it raised.

The main pattern for this tournament was to fish small soft plastics and crankbaits on or near channel banks.  The banks had to be steep and have rock, wood cover didn't seem to make any

difference.  The catchable fish were fairly shallow, 8 foot or less, but deeper water had to be close.

The top finishers are as follows.

1st-- Kevin Runyon --- (2 fish) 6.69 lbs. Big Bass - 3.87 lbs.

2nd--Greg Maynard --- (2 fish) 4.78 lbs.

3rd--Brandon Staten --- (1 fish) 2.45 lbs.
