Geological indications show that the Appalachian Mountains are among the oldest in the universe.

Pike County is the home of the world famous Hatfield-McCoy Feud and the driving tour, which recognizes 6 major sites of the Feud. Our county is also the site of the Pikeville Cut-Through Project. The Cut-Through Project involved moving the river and hills to help eradicate flooding and congestion. This earth removal project is second only to the Panama Canal engineering feat.
